Time to Move and Play

Assessment & Reporting
At Persimmon Elementary, we emphasize progress toward mastery rather than traditional grading, especially in the early grades. In kindergarten through second grade, students do not receive letter grades. Instead, report cards focus on individual growth and mastery of key skills. Beginning in third grade, students are introduced to more traditional grading, which is complemented by teacher observations and personalized feedback. To monitor development, students are assessed three times per year—in the fall, winter, and spring—across academic, social, and emotional areas. Report cards are sent home quarterly and provide clear updates on each student’s progress through essential concepts and learning goals.
Spotlight: 3rd Grade Transition
Third grade is a big step! Students begin to see increased expectations, especially in reading, writing, and math. Teachers support this transition with a mix of:
Unit quizzes and skill checks
Individualized support
Letter grades on report cards
Continued focus on social-emotional development
